You and your guests are invited to attend! See ticket options below to purchase your tickets and guest tickets. This is an interesting and delightful place.

The Heard Museum is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1929 and dedicated to the advancement of American Indian art.  The Heard presents the stories of American Indian people from a first-person perspective and develops exhibitions that showcase the beauty and vitality of traditional and contemporary art in a large historical building on Central Avenue.

Visit: Ticket purchase includes general admission (during open hours 10 am – 4 pm), parking, and a docent-led 45-min tour (beginning @ noon) on “Highlights of the Heard.”  At the conclusion of the tour, you are free to browse the museum, have a lunch, and visit the Heard Museum Shop.

Lunch:  Following our tour you might visit the Courtyard Cafe serving natural, organic and locally sourced products across a seasonally crafted Southwest-inspired menu with both indoor and outdoor seating (11 am – 3 pm).  In addition, the Coffee Cantina offers a selection of gourmet coffee drinks, smoothies, baked-in-house goodies, grab-and-go salads and wraps to enjoy on the courtyard patio or take with you to-go (10 am – 4 pm).

Shop: The Heard Museum Shop is one of the world’s premiere purveyors of American Indian Art and offers a selection of the finest American Indian jewelry, kachinas (katsinas), textiles, pottery, fetishes, baskets, and art.  Authenticity is guaranteed.

Special exhibits: There are 5 special exhibits ongoing when we visit the Heard Exhibitions including the Maria & Modernism exhibit.

Maria Martinez (1887-1980), the San Ildefonso Pueblo ceramicist who became one of the most widely celebrated artists of her time and whose work continues to influence new generations of artists, has been conspicuously excluded from the discourse on American Modernism. In 2024, Phoenix’s Heard Museum will present an original exhibition and scholarly catalogue titled Maria & Modernism that seek to reconcile this oversight of American art history.

The hallmark of Maria Martinez’s career was discovery and innovation. In partnership with her husband Julian, Maria not only reinvented, reinvigorated, and disrupted Pueblo pottery-making, but boldly transformed the art form – a tenet of American Modernism. Despite her artistic contributions and the decades of research, exhibitions, and scholarship focused on a career that spanned more than seven decades, Maria has yet to be recognized as a prominent American Modernist. To correct this omission, Maria & Modernism will present examples of her pottery that substantiate the aesthetic and conceptual affinities of her work with major artistic and creative movements of her time, including decorative and industrial design, and examine her ongoing influence on 21st-century artists.
