"I began to see a building primarily not as a cave but as
a broad shelter in the open, related to vista; vista without
and vista within."  -  Frank Lloyd Wright

Join Penn alumni on a special curated tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West on Sunday, April 07, 2019.

School of Architecture at Taliesin faculty member Shawn Protz C05 and landscape architect Marcia Karasek GLA95, along with Taliesin students, will introduce the main buildings of the Taliesin campus and lead a trek to select Desert Shelter Residences.

Numbering over ninety in all, these unique experimental structures have been a student design-build tradition since Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentices first adopted the site in the late 1930s and assembled simple canvas huts to sleep under the stars. The tour will visit nearly a dozen of the most interesting project examples.

This is a great chance to glimpse an aspect of Taliesin West less seen by the public, and of course, to catch up with fellow alums. A casual reception in the Taliesin Annex will follow the tour.

Includes some light hiking through the desert landscape so closed-toe shoes are required. And bring water.

IMPORTANT:  Capacity is limited; to be sure you are included, RSVP soon!
